Cardiff Metropolitan University was formerly known as the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC).
A recent Times Good University Guide described UWIC as “The best new university in the UK”. Also, The Sunday Times ranked UWIC as the leading new university in Wales for the fourth year running.
They wrote: "UWIC has consistently been among the best-performing modern universities in the UK ... where students acquire skills that make them consistently among the most employable graduates."
In the most recent assessment, the results of the UK Research Assessment Exercise saw UWIC ranked seventh of all new universities across the UK, in the process achieving the second highest increase in ranking of all UK universities.

Cardiff Metropolitan University as it is today, was established in 1996 when it became one of the colleges of the University of Wales. However, the roots date back to the mid 1800’s, a history of which Cardiff Met is very proud.
